It's time to head to the Top End and Bag a Barra with Glenn Watty Watt. Thanks to Barefoot Fishing Safaris and Uniden for the best in UHF radio communications. Explore the extract series at uniden.com.au. We've got our own version of an Hawaiian on this show, and of course, you would have had a fewer wine peaches in his day, our man, Glenn. What do you want from Barefoot Fishing Safaris?

What, did you remember that show? I know, mate. It might be a bit before my time, the old Hawaii 5-0. You're kidding, aren't you?

I'm only a young fella, bud. Well, I can tell you now, Mulchi's a lot younger than you, and I don't think Mulchi has heard it before, but we got him to get the music out before we spoke to our man, Neil Stewart, who was in Hawaii, and since then, I've been copying it all show in the brakes of him doing that down the headphones to me. So, um, but anyway, so now people will be thinking, you know, what does duck have to put up with? But you'd have to know.

But didn't they bring out? They've actually brought out another version. They did a remake of that series of Y 5-0. Oh, you don't have a TV.

You still don't have a TV, do you? No, that's right. And, you know, we were largely bred for slave labour on the farm down in Victoria, mate. So we didn't get much time on the telly, but yeah, no, I'm probably not missing out on too much.

I don't reckon. Do you still not have a TV? No, still don't have one. Got no intentions of going down that path either.

Unbelievable. It is unbelievable. You would have to be. Seriously.

old are the kids? Uh, 13 and 11. No TV. No, no TV.

We don't need it. We're busy kicking footy and swimming in the pool and riding bikes and doing fun stuff. Yeah, good. I mean, and think about it.

I mean, you think about back in the old and old and old and olden days, even before Vic Woodman's time and mine. There was no TV, but do you have a radio one at least? Yeah, put the radio on every morning when we get up? The old school radio. And, of course, you get you get a bit of news and entertainment from iPads and phones and things these days.

Yeah, yeah. So if we were, we do have a, like a computer monitor screen um that we can plug the laptop or the iPad into, to watch a um movie on or something if we want to do that. Yeah, that's all we need, mate. If we want to go watch a game of footy or whatever, we just go to the pub, it's a good excuse to get down to Noonamah.

How many people out there would not have a TV? I, you're in the minority, I would, I'd imagine. I mean... And these days, I mean, I was in Harvey Norman's the other day, and mate, the size of some of these things now are unbelievable. I mean, I'm going to admit, I do have a fairly sized TV here, and I've got a nice big, big one out the back, but I mean, I'm only a, you know, I mean, it's not, you know, we're not on cattle stations here, but, you know, after about 62 years old, I think I'm entitled to have 2 televisions, but I think there's one on the bedroom too, but we never really turned that one on.

But mate, at the end of the day. Yeah, I don't think there'd be too many households. Maybe people out in the remote parts of the world, you know, in the bush wouldn't have a telly, but I think in the norm, most people would have a TV. I think you are definitely in the minority Watty.

Yeah, that's probably true. Maybe I should get some sort of a medal or honourable mention or something for it. You would, mate. you would now.

If someone's heading up to the Top End this weekend. I want to go fishing, what's on? Oh, well, it's all going on, mate. It's um, the season has really changed now.

We actually got some decent rain during the week as well. So it's starting to green up and steam up and um, yeah, I was out for, well, when I was on the, with you last time with old John from the US of A, he um, yeah, he had a good week on the flats for Barra and a couple of days in the billabongs for Barra as well. So, um, that's happening, and then you combine that with some really nice glass off weather in the blue water as well, and um, and those Jew fishing, golden snapper, um, sort of getting into their spawning mode. It's, um, yeah, I mean, I'd probably say it every week, but it's a pretty awesome time to be up here.

Yeah, that's right. And the thing is, you've more or less got the place to yourself, don't you? Yeah, that's fighting down a lot tourism wise, that's for sure. The main drag's got a lot quieter and the caravan parks are emptied right out, so it probably switches it more into, you know, Christmas party time of year and stuff for those Darwin activities and more of a local sort of a scene now, which is fine as well.

Incredible. It's funny, you know, when you said that, I just looked at today's date because there was a bloke who I met in Darwin who was leaving today. So anyway. Evie got his way back to Victoria.

So, um, certainly, they stretch it out up there, the Victorians one for months. Yeah, well, that's right. You've been there since April. weather's getting better down there, I suppose. Yeah.

He might as well live there. I mean, I think he was there in April, May or something. Might as well live there. Yeah, he's retired, you know, so good on you, mate.

So anyway, there's Irby, Irby, if you're listening. Yeah, so I met some good people when I was up there last time, probably because I wasn't hanging around the riffraff, because the riffraff had gone away. So I was hanging around some decent people there for a couple of weeks. There you go.

There was a lesson learned there. Yeah. So, I don't know, we mention it all the time because then we'll continue to do it because it is a big thing. It's a big tourist draw card. The $1000000 fishes on.

Yeah, it's on and there's a couple of them going off too. One young fella or one family down the Daly there. I think it was their 3rd one. Really? Yeah, I mean, it goes to show how many people are fishing down there, and it'll cause a lot of those Daly River mob going down, try catch a feed every 2nd night.

So they're probably the ones that are most likely to do it. And, um, yeah, that family's got three. There's a, there's a few multiple um, multiple winners in over the $1000000 fish years, but yeah, I mean, uh, we'd normally expect that certainly before Christmas for half a dozen to go off. So, yeah, um, now's the time to get get out there and probably coincides with a lot of locals really getting stuck into a bit more fishing as the water temps increase and uh, and that sort of thing as well. So, yeah.

Yeah, absolutely. So you've had a big bucket of rain and then we obviously a lot more to come over the next couple of months, a few months. Yeah, well, fingers crossed, mate. We're keen for another big wet season and perhaps not a cyclone in November like we had last year, but yeah, get some good rain early and get everything green, get the system happening.

once it, once it gets green and starts steaming up each day. That sort of seems to be what perpetuates the, you know, the following day's rain and that sort of thing, um, each day. So, yeah, and and also, um, helps avoid, if we get sort of more consistent rain, helps avoid, um, like fish kills and billabongs and and then just keeps that spawning process going for the barr and everything else too. So just doesn't need to be lots of rain, but just getting it consistently is the way to go.

Yeah, absolutely. All right. Well done. All right, mate.

Well, I'll let you go. I want you to get on that iPad. And I want you to look up Hawaii 5-0, okay? Okay, I'll do. Hang on, Mulchi, can you turn your microphone on, Mulchi?

you do that? Oh, he's getting himself ready. You there, Mulchi? Yep.

I'm here. Just, just give, just give, just give, um, Watty another one of those things. Okay. Okay. Hang on, he's tossing. Hang on. He's tossing it up now.

He's doing 2 sort of beats now, like, then, ba, ba, ba. Oh, yeah, I don't know. Is there ever, is there like a, what's the word? like a uniform way to do it?

No, not at all. Anything he goes, what? Yeah, well, from my depth of experience listening to that tune, I'd say he's doing a very good job. Yep, no, he does a good job here.

Don't worry about that, mate. He makes you sound good. What have you got? You got no idea after the show, he's got to tidy up all the stuff you do.

He's doing it while you work while you're on. You every week too. No, no, no, no, no. That's the highlight of his week.

Don't worry about that, what? It's a highlight of his week. tiding up the nonsense that you do and, you know, and all that stuff. Takes the time.

That takes all the time. No, I've asked for a 2nd opinion on that one, I reckon. Okay, well, I'll just ask meself, hang on, Clancy, me dogs here. I ask him.

He's not saying much at the moment. He's being a social producer. He sleeps on the job a lot, Clancy. He knows. All right.

All right, mate, you enjoy the week and I think you're back out fishing next week, but we'll find you somewhere. I'll forget text, okay? I'll be on the water, mate. I reckon next week.

Yep. getting into it again. All right, we'll talk to you then. we'll find you.

Take the Starlink with you, along with the official. Unreal, I'll do that. I know you do. All right.

Talk to you then. See you. There he is, Glenn. What do you want?

He's the man. He's our Dano up there in the top. I got to say to you, he's very funny. But he's up there in the Top End.

Barefoot Fishing Safaris. Check him out there on Facebook and of course on the website, Barefoot Fishing Safaris, in the Top End.
