I'm Broadcasty from a campground in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales at a little town called Nimitobel, and Watty is up on a boat in the Top End somewhere.

Watty, where are you, son? Yeah, g'day, duck. Yeah, we're about 3 quarters of the way to the mouth of the South Alligator River in Kakadu National Park, sitting at the mouth of the creek and trying to tempt a few fish. Does that get any more real than that, does it?

No, it's a bloody cracking day here today too. We, we had um one nice big barrow early and now we're just into a bit of a quiet period where they've gone a bit tricky on us, so sort of um using a bit of a nigh limited amount of patience for the day and... There's not, turn up again shortly. There's not a bloke on the boat that looks like me, you see? Uh, well, no, no one.

No, probably not. No, fair. No, because I thought maybe they were looking up going, oh, he's back. He's back.

Let's just hide. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're never in too much danger when you're on the boat, these fish, are they? Yeah, no, not at all.

No, but everybody else's rods are and stuff and, you know, the back of their heads and things. So, mate, so how is it? So you've obviously been out there all morning. Will you move around a little bit to try and chase them a bit?

What happens? Yeah, we have checked a couple of spots so far. This one's one of my sort of most reliable and we were here a few days ago, so I know they'll feed on the low tide here. Um, we just were, we were expecting when we got that nice big one early that, they sort of come on a bit as the tide ran out.

But, yeah, we got going from the camp at about 530 this morning and um, yeah, we'll be here most of the day and that'll give us enough time to hopefully be here when they do decide to open their nails. And then have a bit of a feed tonight. Yeah, that's right. We've got a few bar in the freezer already, but we're trying to catch a couple of these big threadfin salmon down here, which is probably my favourite fish to eat up here.

So, they'll cook them up for us at the Rora Kakadu Lodge, if we bring a couple back. So, that's definitely part of the plan today. Yeah, sounds good. How good does that sound? Jeez, you're living the life, son.

Now, listen, you mentioned the tides and stuff. How are other water levels up in the Top End at the moment, mate. Of all the water that you've had in recent times. Yeah, it's amazing how fast it's all dropped out and disappeared.

actually. We're, um, we're well and truly back to probably, um, what you would expect on a normal year right now and perhaps even a bit lower at the boat ramp. It got washed away a little bit um because of all that um heavy rain we had. But yeah, the the neap tides directly after that last big dump of rain just allowed it to get to get away really quickly.

And I think that's part of the reason why we're having a little bit of trouble getting these fish to bite a little bit this week. Yesterday wasn't too bad, but the last couple of days of being a bit slow. I think the rivers just dropped so fast and everything's just a bit unsettled and um, you know, it might take another day or 2 and then hopefully they'll come back on the bike. Yeah, all right.

Good stuff, mate. Well, it sounds fantastic. It's great that we catch you on the boat with a few customers out there trying to bag that barrow and what was the other one? Redfin.

Ah, the threadfin, king threadfin, yeah. King threadfin. never heard of it. I imagine now, I'm a Finnish fish connoisseur.

I thought you wrote the book on fish identification didn't you? Mate, I wrote the book on all the gear with no idea. And at that, at even with that Wally, Wally? It's a colour and in book.

Yeah. I'm not that good, as you know. All right. Although, I did tell you, I got that, Murray, Cod, the other week, out at Narrowmind, with a piece of cheese. Yeah, yeah.

Geez, big. Put some, put a bit of cheese on. So go. Yeah, I'll rip a bit out of the lunch bag.

Yeah, right, ask. Yeah, you got to move. How many beers you got to move out of the way to get to that? All right.

No, well, we've got, we just had a big barrel boof over my shoulder here. So maybe it's about to start happening. No, they're in a separate esky, mate. We've got to make sure we keep the important stuff separated.
