It's time to head to the Top End and Bagabara with Glenn Watty Watts. Thanks to Shimano. Remember to buy local and fish local. Visit shamanofish.com.au.
Well, he's the man behind Barefoot Fishing Safaris, and he's been absolutely making a pick of himself on the family farm eating lamb. that make sense? Wadi. Happy New Year, son.
Oh, yeah, you too, mate. You're absolutely dead right. I reckon I would have grown a tail and ears if I had have eaten another mouth or a lamb or some claws in a tail if I had have eaten another yabby. Bloody hell.
Well, okay, fair enough. I was a catch up with the family on the farm, mate. Were they happy to see you leave? Happy to have me for a couple of days and then welcome Ware's a bit thin once you start cleaning the beer fridge out.
But no, it was good. We struggled to get a bit of decent weather down there, actually, unfortunately, but, um, you know, uh, that's the way it goes sometimes, and I think we definitely weren't on our own, and people got a lot wetter than we did. So, no, we had a bit of fun, a bit of cricket in between showers, and, and of course, um, the traditional um, spit race day on boxing day at, the old fellas joint, and um, yeah, roasted up a nice prime lamb, and shared that with the neighbours and rallies, and anyone else who rocked around. was good fun.
Sounds okay, mate. I just mentioned that cricket game, the drinks break would have went for a while. tipping. Well, that's one of the things these days you've got to, um, trying to keep up with the kids, all the kids and cousins and nephews and nieces.
They run you pretty ragged. So, yeah, you got to make sure the esk is not too far away. Exactly, mate. Okay, so you've done that.
You're on your way back up to the Top End. Have you got an email? been happening up there? Yeah, I have got a bit of mail, actually.
It seems like um it's everyone who stays in Darwin for what we would call an orphan's Christmas is um they take great pleasure in sending everyone who went away down to the cold climates, all their photos of their fish, during this time of year, and um, yeah, they've definitely been having some good weather because the rain's actually backed off a bit, which isn't a real good thing in the long run. Um but for blokes looking to go out um fishing on any given day. Yeah, they've had some really good conditions and been catching a lot of barrow, particularly is what I'm seeing at the moment, for sure. Yeah, fantastic mate.
And I see that I follow 18 years on social media and it'd be a good place to spend Christmas, Darwin. It's funny, you know, I had a message sent through from one of our listeners, who was actually travelling up to spend Christmas at Kakadu of all places. Yeah, right. Yeah, I mean, I mean, it'd be different, wouldn't it?
Yeah, definitely not a bad way to go because, you know, there's no, there's not too many other tourists around getting in your way of taking a photo of a beautiful sunset, it would be a rock or, um, you know, seeing the crocodiles like we do at East Alligator and that sort of stuff, but, but also, you know, if you're in Darwin City and a lot of Darwin locals will do sort of what people everywhere in Australia do, I suppose, go and book a book an on-site cabin or whatever at the local caravan park and get away from home for a few nights and, and the crowd just really small and so you've got these big beautiful swimming pools. You got the wave pool down the waterfront, all to yourself, virtually, and all the restaurants and stuff are still open. So, you can have a pretty relaxing sort of holiday at home if you stay in Darwin.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, well done. And Richard, one of our listeners who sent me a message telling me that he was flying up to the territory, and then spending Christmas out at Kakadu, and he was going to send through some photos of all that, but I just think that, you know, I look like good fun in Darwin, like, you know, some of the parties and Christmas celebrations that were on. It sounded fantastic.
Oh, hang on. His flight's been called. I see he's on his way back to the territory. And yeah, you're not welcome on this flight, Mr. Wright.
Yeah, yeah. Glenn Watt, please. Glenn Watt, please vacate the premises. Please remain at the point.
I was waiting for you. 34 in the truck raffle. That's right. eh? That'd be more like it.
The PA system, we'd be. Yeah, number 34 on the Chookie. Hey. Still need chook raffles at pubs? Meat trays are the game.
They do meat trace. Yeah, meat trays are very popular in Dale most Friday nights, yeah. Yeah, pop it. Remember the old Chook Raffles? Yeah, they've been the old frozen chicken.
Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Will and powerfish. You're a fishing, you're a fishing guru, what?
You ever see much of Willum Powerfish? Oh no. Well, you know, I don't think he's made a trip up for Darwin, but yeah, let's catch up with him go and chuck a few chooks around if you need a hand. We need to get him on the radio.
We need to get him on the show. Oh, mate, he's one of the funniest blokes of all time. Oh, mate, some of it, some of the, some of the pranks that he's pulled have been absolute crackers. And I made a very funny bloke.
I admire how much he gives back to people we need and all that to the stuff as well. Good on him. Yeah, I was about to say that. It's amazing what he does for the community. And in particular, he's focussed on mental health.
He's just, he should be applauded for that. And I, some of them videos where he's dressed up and he's, I don't know what you call that suit, but he's, he's got his Batman Balaclava on and he's rashy top that's way too small for him. handing out, you know, handfuls of 50s and 100s to people paying their grocery bills as they come out with their trolly full of groceries. and amazing.
He does some great stuff, but gee, he's a funny bloke. I'd love to get him on the show and I reckon he'd fit in here. Yeah, he can give you all right, mate. Yeah, well, maybe, maybe not.
I reckon he'd be giving me an invoice. Listen, has the $1000000 fish gone? Anything happening? No, no, last last 2 weeks, pretty quiet. Yeah, I think that's probably a sign of the amount of effort that's been put in.
Not as many people fishing because a lot of people are away, but it does tend to slow down once Christmas sort of happens and it starts to rain again as well. Yeah, we'd be unlikely to see one probably for the next month, I'd reckon, but you never know. It might be me this week when I get out for a flick myself. That'd be good, mate.
Don't forget your old mate, the duck, OK, if you have the big win. That's right. No, I remember. Remember the little people, son?
Remember the little people, mate? All right. That's right. Okay.
Well, you enjoy. I'm glad that you enjoyed Chris with the family. sounds like a lot of fun. Back to the Top End and back to wearing wet shirts all day.
That's right. Yeah, mate. Back to the nice steamy weather. It's actually a beautiful day to get here in Adelaide today.
So, yeah, if we get a bit of rain as we come in and down, that'll be nice. a nice welcome back. Yeah, absolutely. All right, mate.
You travel safe. We'll talk to you next week, eh? Beauty, mate. Good on you.
All the best. There he is. Glenn Watt. What do you mean?
