It's time to head to the Top End and Bag a Barra. With Glenn Watty Watts, Thanks to Shimano. Remember to buy local and fish local. Visit shamanofish.com.au.
Well, I love this part of the show. We head to the Top End in the northern territory. We talked. I want you to see what's biting and look, it's pretty wet up there at the moment.
Watty, how you doing? How's the wet season treating you, son? Yeah, going well, mate. Yeah, it's actually a really nice sunny day today.
We're just having a couple of days just sort of afternoon storms at the moment, which is good. Give the country a bit of time to catch up to all that, that huge amount of rain we had for sort of 2 weeks after Christmas. So, it's actually really nice. I've seen a fair few boats driving around as I'm cruising around doing my job today, so people are getting out and about, which is good. I mean, cruise around doing your job.
You're probably cruising around doing the bottle, they run. I mean, fair, Tink. I cruised around doing your job. one of the high priorities.
Yeah, I know. Now, mate, obviously this time of year is when, you know, you're prepping for what's going to be a pretty big season for you, but you've got some online courses running at the moment, like an online boot camp. Tell us about that. Yeah, that's right.
Yeah. I mean, as we mentioned last week as well. This time year really is about sort of getting ready for a big season for me and I know a lot of and a lot of other top entry shows, but everyone tries to get out a little bit, but largely we're sort of waiting for that rain to stop and the runoff to start in sort of late February, early March, and part of the Barefoot fishing academy is obviously some online training for people about how to learn how to catch more barrow, and a big part of that is planning out your trips to actually, well, to be successful, especially. So, yeah, I'm actually running a 3 day 4 day boot camp.
Um, it'll be next weekend um to uh, sort of help as many people as um, as who are keen to join in, plan out their whole 4 months of, of uh, of their runoff barrel fishing. So, um, it's a, it'll be just a couple of hours a day, over 4 days um, over next weekend and uh, people will be able to walk away with all their fishing plan, planned out right in front of them for the next 4 months of runoff fishing and hopefully really be able to take advantage of, of what's looking like the best, probably best runoff fishing we've had in 10 years. So it's exciting. exciting for other people, yeah. That's big show.
If people want to enrol. So this is online. So you do the course and and it sets you up for your, like you say, for your barra fishing. How do they enrol, mate?
Yeah, so they can go to um barefootfishingacademy.com and they'll uh, they'll be our just, uh, the page will come straight up. It's only 27 bucks to join in on this on this show too, so I get a heap of value out of it. I'm going to coach everyone on how to plan all their fish and trips exactly the way they want them to, not so much how I would plan because everyone, everyone sort of does it differently. So everyone will have the opportunity to really tailor their own fishing plans for the next 4 months there, just out of a few hours of planning next weekend, which would be cool.
So when they go, so they plan their own trips. when they go to get that bacon egg roll, they're not sitting outside the place for 20 minutes waiting for it to open, they can actually get there when it's open. Well, this is after you cop it for being 5 minutes late. This is the problem that we have with you, mate, is that you ran a bit late, so I'm normally half an hour early waiting out the front there, but I get the 1st one.
You're giving it to me because I was running late. Then we get there and sit there and wait for the place to open to get the bacon egg rolls. But I think it's, I think, standing room only in there, mate, we're in the bacon and eggs coming out. Yeah, I know.
I know, it was busy, wasn't it? Well, that time of morning now. But this is a great thing. I mean this is an initiative from you.
So the Barefoot fishing academy. and that's the website, barefootfishingacademy.com.au. and they jump on their 27 bucks. And look, and these online courses. I mean, people are doing online courses for all sorts of things these days.
This is a great thing. And you can actually get some tips and set yourself up so you can, because I think everyone who goes fishing in particular, the Top End. They want to get that barramundi. They want to go Barramundi fishing. I mean, where we are now, one of our blokes camped here, he took off on a charter the other day and came back with a heap of fish, and I think people just love that, that, you know, that experience of catching them because, as you know, I got no idea, and I mean, you see, people out here fishing, they get nothing all day, but, but you see others, you go on these sort of tours and get out there and bring, get amongst them.
Well, you can set them up for that all online. How good is it? Yeah, yeah, that's right. And I mean, this one, it's a good one because it's, it's because people are building their own plans sort of with my guidance and actually with some of our sort of superstar students from the course, um, helping doing some guidance as well.
Um, it doesn't matter if they've been in the Top End for 10 years or this is their 1st year, you know, like they, they'll be able to build their fishing plan for the next 4 months exactly at, at their experience level and, and um, and sort of use our knowledge and, and of course, as a base, as a foundation of that knowledge as well, to come out with a really good plan for their, whether it's one trip they're doing for the, for the runoff or, or, you know, every weekend, um, you know, 27 bucks are going to save you a lot of time and money, messing around and, um, sort of chasing your tail, you, yeah, should be able to get straight on to the fish each time with any luck ? What do they say? Failing to plan, he's playing to fail.
So, I mean, I think it's a great thing. So people can jump onto that barefootfishingacademy.com.au and enrol for 27 bucks. It's not bad. Get yourself set up, get yourself some knowledge and you, who knows?
You just might jag yourself some bearers. Mate, at the moment up there. I mean, the locals are basically got the place of themselves and out having a fish. When do you start again?
and start up and when the things start to hot up up there. Yeah, uh, it'll really get busy with fish and charters uh, from start of March. I usually do a trip last week of February, just to, you know, as a bit of a, I guess, a recon trip to make sure everything's where I want it to be, as far as the fish and the water and the bait goes, and then we're, then we're into it flat out from there, and yeah, I mean, run off this year will definitely go right through till the end of May. So a lot of fishing guys up here and people working at the lodges and bar stuff and that won't get too many days off between 1st of February and the end of May.
Yep. Well, yeah, pretty exciting. Oh, look, I think so, mate. And quickly, mate, the $1000000 fish.
Any more winners lately? No one this week, mate. No, that's right. I mean, there's probably been a lot less people actually going fishing the last week or 2 as well, just because of the rain, but they do start to spread out like I mentioned last time.
Yep, yep. Oh, of course, mate. I think it's great things. So people can jump onto this, get yourself ready for barrow fishing.
Barefoot fishing academy, barefootfishingacademy.com.au. and join up. and mate, I think it's a great thing you're doing, mate. I know you do a lot of stuff, and for that price, I think that's well worth it, mate. So I think that I reckon that'll go really well.
So there'll be plenty of people on there next week getting some of that knowledge from you, mate. Yeah, mate, that's right. It'll be good. Good fun and you know, all hanging around at crew supportive and light-minded Fishers too, who are there for the same reason.
That would be good. Yep, and look, anyone who joins up can go into the draw to win a can of mid-strength from Watty. So that should be fantastic as well. Yeah, that's the morning beers, mate, yeah.
I know, yeah, the ones you have whilst you're working. I know, what he told me in the past. All right, good luck with it, mate. A great thing, mate.
And it's great that you share that knowledge. And look, people, if you want to get into that Barrett Monday fishing, which we all do, jump onto that Barefoot fishing academy.com.au, enrol now, and it's on all weekend next weekend, and who knows, you might be a bit smarter when it comes to catching that elusive Barramundi by the end of it. We'll let you go. Wadi, it sounds pretty busy where you are whilst you're out driving around working. That's right, mate.
I'm flat out around. Of course. All right. See you.
Next week, eh? Good on you. Have a good one. There he is.
That's Watty. man, in the Top End, barefootfishingacademy.com.au. Why not join up and after that? and you 2 can get out and catch bar of money, just like what he does.
