It's time to head to the top N and Bag a Barra. With Glenn Watty Watts, Thanks to Shimano. Remember to buy local and fish local. Visit Shimanofish.com.au. Well, the fishing never ends up in the Top End, but for the, in regards to taking people out fishing, um, on Barefoot Fishing Safaris, Bay, it's a wrap for this year, saw the video, and you wash the boat the other day, uh, Wadi, and it was pouring rain.
What do you do, just throw some sober over it and sit there and drink cans and watch it rinse off, do you? Yeah, that's that's probably not the bad way to go. Chuck the ball in there for the dog to chase it around and stir up few bubbles, duck, and let the rain do the rest. But no, I did give it, usually, um, that last sort of wash for the end of the year, pull everything out, give it a real good birthday, and then, then it's a sort of clean slate when I do a bit of maintenance in it as the wet season goes on.
So, yeah, but the rain did help wash the, wash the last rinse off, so that was good, and I did happen to find a nice cold long neck in the, in the Eskies, as I was cleaning it out too, so that helped as well. Yeah, I saw that. I did see that people can go to the web, go to the website, go to the Facebook page. Barefoot Fishing Safaris, as you'll see my man, Watty there, swinging on a long neck while he's talking about the year that was, which is fantastic. So, um, and now I guess, you know, all the, all the other fishing guides and that sort of sort of closed down for now, and it's just the locals really that are out having a, throwing a line and trying to get those fish, or is there still the odd tourists up there trying to jag one of those tag fish, maybe, for the uh, the $1000000 fishcom.
Yeah, yeah. It is a bit like that. Largely, people slow down over the wet season, particularly over Christmas. There's a, there's the odd one around and a few blokes sort of chip away doing a bit of one day stuff and half day stuff, but um, yeah, I like to give myself a proper break and get some maintenance done and then, and have a bit of a holiday myself. So, yeah, we'll, we'll pull up for a month or 2 and get all the work done and get the logistics done for next year and um, and hit the ground run and sort of mid-February 2023.
So normally at this time of year, over the last couple of years, we've caught up with on the family farm where the old man's put you to work on the farm, but you're popping in there, but you're actually going overseas, aren't you, for a couple of weeks? What are you doing? Yeah, yeah, that's right. We're actually heading to New Zealand for Christmas, the lioness and meself for a couple of weeks.
Camping, um, Christmas New Year, so pretty excited about that. Yeah, we'll do the we'll do the big family farm Christmas. The following you. Which is the lovely Louise, she gets referred to as the lioness.
I think she takes a bit takes a bit of pride in being called the lioness. Fair enough. So that makes what does that make you, what? The Lion King.
Yeah, yeah, on the paddle pop line, mate. The paddle pop line. Yeah, the paddle. Exactly, mate.
All right. So well done. So obviously a big year for you this year. And there's a lot there's a lot more stuff happening with Barefoot Fishing Safaris. we'll try and catch you next week.
Not sure where you'll be, and we'll have a talk about the other aspects of what you're doing in regards to fishing, education, and all that other stuff that you do and how you've expanded on the business and we'll talk a bit about that and we'll see if we can get the latest. See if there's any millionaires up in the Top End that have jagged that big one. Well, I think we're talking on another radio program the other night, you said there's 8 chances out there with a tag on for a 1000000 bucks. Who knows? Someone could just get one of those.
couldn't they? Yeah, absolutely. Wouldn't be a bad Christmas, brother, what, a 1000000 bucks or even 10 grand. There was another couple caught this week as well.
So, um, good, good for those, actually, all local guys. So, um, good, good bit of a Christmas bonus there. But yeah, that's, I guess that's another thing that I'm doing. This time of year, Duck, we're getting ready to do a bit, a bit more online course stuff and um, get another group of um, keen Barraficos through and get them up to speed and catching a few more fish next season. So, it's a pretty exciting thing that I can, uh, provide people as I sort of slow down on the guiding bit and keep helping people catch the fish vicariously.
So it works well. Yeah, good stuff. We'll tell people all about that next week and how they can get involved and tell them what else you get up to. Mate, I know you're on the road, so you travel safe, and well done, and congratulations on a good year because I know like everybody else in the tourist business, in particular around the country.
COVID played a big partner, an effect on what went on this year. You had a good season. mate. So well done.
But we'll try and jag you next week and we'll talk a bit more fishing and everything else. Yeah, mate, that'll be good. And thanks to you guys too, for putting it out there and getting the territory fishing back on the map for everyone. and I'm sure it helps keep the awareness up up there. So, yeah, it's been a great year and look forward to continuing it on next year.
Good on you, mate. you a good one. Not sure whether we do that, but we couldn't find you after the time. That was because you're not sure.
But no, well done. Got to fly, mate. see you later. Talk to you next week.
There he is. He's a great bloke. Fair digging. Been on this show now for 3 years.
Can you believe it? We've been putting up with him. Three years. Barefoot Fishing Safaris.
We're getting next week. and we'll have a bit of time to talk about the other aspects to his business. He's all over it, and everybody comes to fishing in general, but in particular, fishing up in that top part of the country and beyond, he is the best in the business.
